Are Plantation Shutters Blackout?

Plantation shutters provide strong light control, but they are not a sealed blackout product.

Why small light gaps remain

Shutters need operating clearances around panels, louvres and frames. Light can enter through these small gaps, particularly around the perimeter and where panels meet.

How to improve light reduction

A well-fitted frame and correctly adjusted panels help minimise unnecessary gaps. An inside Z-frame can also cover the edge of the recess neatly where the window is suitable for that frame.

When true blackout matters

If you need near-total darkness for sleep, shift work or a media room, consider combining shutters with a dedicated blockout product rather than relying on shutters alone.
