Preparing Your Windows for Shutter Installation

A little preparation makes shutter installation faster and reduces the chance of damaging the shutter or surrounding finishes.

Clear the work area

Move furniture, curtains, blinds and decorative objects away from the window. Give yourself enough floor space to assemble the frame without stepping over components.

Prepared installation area

Remove conflicting window coverings

Take down any blind brackets, curtain hardware or other fittings that occupy the shutter mounting area unless they are intended to remain.

Window fixing surface

Clean the fixing surfaces

Remove loose dust and debris from the recess, architrave or wall face. Check that paint, plaster and trim are sound enough to accept fixings.

Labelled shutter components

Check the substrate

Work out whether you are fixing into timber, plasterboard, masonry or another material and have the correct fixings ready.

Match components to windows

Keep each frame and panel set with its window label. Do not mix panels from different openings even if the sizes look similar.
