How to Install Inside Mount Plantation Shutters

Inside-mount installation involves assembling the shutter frame square within the recess, fixing it securely and then hanging and adjusting the panels.

Preparation and tools

Unpack the components carefully and keep hardware grouped by window. Confirm the opening and shutter labels before drilling.

  • Drill/driver and suitable drill bits.
  • Spirit level.
  • Tape measure.
  • Pencil.
  • Appropriate screws and packers for the substrate.
Inside frame assembly

1. Assemble the frame

Join the frame pieces on a clean surface according to their labels. Keep corners fully seated and avoid twisting the frame.

2. Position the frame

Place the frame into the recess and use temporary fixing points or packers to hold it. Check level, plumb and diagonal squareness before fully tightening.

3. Fix the frame

Secure the frame progressively, checking that it remains square. Use fixings appropriate to timber, plaster, masonry or the actual substrate.

Hanging shutter panels

4. Hang the panels

Fit the hinge pins or panel hardware in the labelled positions. Open and close each panel gently to check clearance.

5. Fine-tune alignment

Adjust packing and fixings so panel gaps are even and the doors stay where positioned. Do not force a panel that is rubbing.

6. Finish the installation

Fit any cover strips or caps, clean away drilling dust and test every louvre, panel and underlying window operation.
