Adjusting Plantation Shutter Panels

Small installation adjustments can correct uneven panel gaps, rubbing or panels that do not sit neatly in the frame.

Check the frame first

Panel problems are often caused by the frame being slightly out of square. Check level, plumb and diagonal measurements before altering hardware.

Use packing at fixing points

If the wall or recess is uneven, loosen the relevant fixing, add or remove a packer and retighten gradually. Watch how the panel gap changes.

Check hinges

Make sure hinge screws are seated and the hinge leaves are aligned. Only make small adjustments at a time.

Louvre tension

If your shutter system includes an adjustment for louvre tension, use it sparingly. The louvres should stay where positioned without becoming difficult to tilt.

Do not force a rubbing panel

Repeatedly forcing the panel can damage the finish or hardware. Stop and correct the alignment instead.
